Linn’s
Unidisk 1.1 was causing quite a stir because of the myriad capabilities
it possesses. Linn's first universal audio/video player is compatible
with SACD, DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, CD; throw in THX certification and you
have a do-it-all machine. The retail price of the Unidisk 1.1 is yet to
be announced, but it's suspected to be around $8000. [http://www.linn.co.uk/]

Avantgarde USA hauled four
Basshorn modules ($10,000 each) into their demo room for use with a pair
of Trio loudspeakers ($28,000/pair). Jim Smith of Avantgarde USA mused
that even on the loudest peaks (which were loud indeed) the Trios
might use 1 watt. [http://www.avantgardeusa.com/]

Audiopax showed its new Model
5 remote-controlled solid-state preamp and the stereo version
of its single-ended Model Eighty Eight amplifier, the Stereo Eighty
Eight. Both sounded very good driving prototype Audiopax speakers.

Blue Circle's Gilbert Yeung
vaporized into a puff of smoke, leaving only his hat behind, just as the
photo of his new BC 24 (left, $2495) and 28 ($3995) hybrid amplifiers
was taken. [http://www.bluecircle.com/]

VAC debuted the gorgeous Master
Control 2.0 ($13,000) class-A Ultriode preamplifier, which comes with a
MM/MC phono section and external power supply. It was impossible to walk
by this preamp without noticing it!

Like flea-powered tube amps? Well,
this isn't one of those. It's the Electro Brand Model 2002 AM/FM radio
($12.95).
